INCLUDING
(Innovative Cluster for Radiological and Nuclear Emergencies)
Fraunhofer IVI is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which undertakes applied research to private and public enterprise. Fraunhofer IVI has extensive experience in developing large applied research projects in the fields of civil security, transportation, infrastructure, and energy. The Department of Strategy and Optimisation has longstanding experience in developing solutions for improved situational awareness, decision support, communication and modelling. The developed software technology MobiKat – consisting of a GIS-based command & control system with multiple web applications connected to - is in daily and practical use at police forces, fire-brigades, rescue services, and other civil protection organisations.
The technologies have been developed initially in order to support optimal response to flood and other largescale situations, but have proven themselves in many situations, such as the severe floods in the Free State of Saxony in 2006 and 2013, but also in other extraordinary and everyday situations. In order to support such large-scale usage scenarios, appropriate deployment architectures have been designed and developed.
The main task of Fraunhofer IVI is the work on the federated cluster, which will be built as a federation of testbeds. This platform is based on the outcome of the RAWFIE project and where we have been contributing strongly. The platform itself will not be used in its existent form, but adapted and extended to the special requirements for the INCLUDING platform. A strong focus is laid on interoperability between the testbeds of the federation which means we will be trying to use as many open standards as possible for import / export functionalities and general interfaces. Our task in working on the platform is not limited to the middleware and backend, however, but we are also working on the web based front-end as well. This will be using modern technologies based on HTML 5 and probably ECMAScript 7.
Additionally we are able to contribute to the training aspect of the platform as we are working on the training platform for the project TARGET where we are responsible for the overall architecture and the simulation engine driving the trainings. Building upon our vast experience in visualisation, especially of geospatial data in form of maps, we can also contribute in any tasks that require such work.
